Default 3 radio direction finding school

    Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what code letters/numbers, if any, were used on aircraft in June 1942 with 3 RDFS at Prestwick?

    Many thanks
    Dave

    G'day Dave

No codes according to 'Royal Air Force Flying Training and Support Units' by Sturtivant, Hamilton and Halley.

    Cheers...Chris

    Thanks Chris.

In your opinion, do you think it likely the aircraft carried just an individual letter? I`m just working on some profiles for headers in stories for a second volume of Lost to the Isles, so just want to get these as near as possible to the aircraft I`ll be writing about.

    Regards
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
According to RAF Training and Support Units, 3 RDFS was formed on 19-8-42 ex No 3 Radio School at Prestwick. Examples of a/c from 3 RS include Botha L6178 'L6', and Anson AX542 'Q'. It's a/c may well have retained their codes from No 3 RS.
    Cheers

Thanks Ian. The aircraft I am working on is Botha L6276, Air Britain still has it with 3 RS, but 1180 says 3 RDFS.
