    Hi All,

Am doing some research into my family tree and came across your thread. I am related to John Fenwick and Malcolm is correct he was killed as the result of a V1 rocket whilst staying with his brother future wife's parents (follow that?).

I am trying to find out more about why he was there and more about his military record.

Apologies for the naive question but what is the context of the thread?

Any help in the above is greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Jamie

    Hi Jamie

Thanks for confirming his cause of death.

The context his simply that Henk, who began this series of threads, was attempting to record the cause of death of all Allied air force personnel as a lasting tribute to their sacrifice.

Since his death the forum has continued to fulfil his aims.

    Hello,

    UK
ZDIMAL, Vaglacv [sic] - F/O 138876- RAFVR - The Maidenhead Register.

Now this post has been resurrected, it is an opportune time to comment on the abovementioned airman. F/O Zdimal's forename was "Vaclav", not "Vaglacv" (I know that was what the CWGC said). Since the initial posting of this thread, Zdimal's name has been removed from the Maidenhead Register, generally indicating the remains have been repatriated to the persons homeland (I don't know if that is the case here - Zdimal was born in Sarajevo, Jugoslavia[!]). When I first started checking the Maidenhead Register (back in 2003), there were 221 names recorded, now there are only 48! He was definitely aboard No.311 Sdn Liberator GR.V BZ754 (not BZ759), on 29 June, 1944, as recorded in Pavel Vancata's excellent history of No.311 Squadron (Stratus[MMP Books],2013).

    Any comments Pavel?

BEALES, Leonard Neville Arthur - LAC - 1633487 - RAFVR

Date of death was 29th JULY 1944 not 29th June.

He died at RAF Langham. Death certificate states "Accidentally killed by being crushed between the engine of an aircraft and the steering wheel of a tractor". Aircraft in question was probably a Beaufighter. ORB states his death was due to an error of judgement on his part.

STEWART, James Geddis - Cpl - 1001179 and
SYKES, Peter Gordon - LAC - 1005488 - a family tree on ancestry.co.uk records that Sykes was lost on H.S.L. 2551.
