    Default May 30/31,1942 Cologne

419 Sq sent 18 Wellingtons out on the attack on Cologne. Two aircraft were borrowed. they were Wellington Ic R-1605 and R-9941, according to the ORB,s. Are these serial numbers valid, and which units were they held by at this time.
    Thanks in advance, Richard

    Hi Richard,

I think R1605 was once on strength of No.57 Squadron DX-A. It further served with 21-15 and 28 OTU. Not sure about R9941 looks incorrect to me without checking.

I reckon Smudger's been on the ale and sitting in the sun for too long ;) R9941 was one of 300 Anson Mk.1s built between July and September 1940, and went straight to the RCAF as 6083.

Thanks for the input, gents. R-1605 seems correct. I did some further digging, and I think it should of been X-9941.
On an other note. Do you have a copy of the Mildenhall ORB for this period. The Orb for 419 Sq does not it show operating on May 19/20 and 21/22,1942. I have evidence they did. I am wondering if the Mildenhall records would show anything.
    Regards, Richard

    Hi Richard,

I have checked the Mildenhall ORB, nothing I'm afraid. Happy to email the page if required.

Taff...your right about the ale, but....what sun !!

    Steve

PS : also checked 15 & 21 OTU ORB, found nothing sadly.

    Default Cologne

Steve. Would the 3 Group Orb mention anything about 419 Sq operating on May 19/20 or May 21/22,1942.

    Thanks Richard
