Mosquito KB285 was declared "missing after a crash" on 25 August 1944. Sorry, that is all I have.

    Hello

    UK
GIBBS, Norman Budden - Sgt - 519934 - the Portsmouth Evening News of July 10th 1944 reported that he was killed when he was thrown out of a U.S. Army Jeep in the early hours of the Sunday morning. He had been given a lift an American soldier, and was flung from the vehicle when it swerved violently to avoid a stationary military vehicle in the black out near Cow Lane in Western Road, Paulsgrove. He was taken to a military hospital where he died of his injuries.

    MacWILLIAM, John - AC2c - 1831728 - possibly registered Swindon as McWilliam.

POWTER, Harold William - F/S (Air Bomber) - 1890677 - killed by a V-1 while on leave. See:

Pierre Jean Louis Terken 1319202, was killed in a flying accident near RAF Collyweston. There is no indication in his records of the aircraft involved, but the balance of probability indicates it was Beaufighter X 7360 of 51 OTU

I'm not sure if I've typed this message in the right place as have never done this type before.
Norman Budden Gibbs was my father. Unfortunately, I never knew him because he was killed in the road accident on his way home on special leave for my birth. I was born on 28th July 1944 some three weeks later.
I have the cutting from the Portsmouth paper. My wife and I have also visited his War Grave down in Portsmouth about 7 years ago.
My older brother, myself and our Mother lived in Portsmouth for several years after, and then moved up to the North of England which is where we live now in Bury, Lancashire.
It was nice to see him mentioned on your Forum. Thank you.
    Regards Glenn Gibbs

Glenn thanks for posting about your late father - one of the reasons this forum is so useful is that it can provide this family linkage and information.
