    Hi Jerry,

    Hi Pavel,
    many thanks,
a photo has turned up on e bay of a beaufort captured ,( out of my price range), with one of these two serials.

strange bit is the u/c isn't torn off, and it isn't blown up, which makes AW294 a less likely option, however it has type A roundels which doesn't add up with AW284 date, of '43
(incidently supposedly 39Sq had converted to beaufighters in june 43), so maybe there is a typo in the records, unfortunately the a/c has no codes, but interestingly does have ASV aerials.
I wonder if AW284 was repaired and wasn't blown up for some reason on evacuation.
    must do some more research...
    Cheers
    Jerry

    Hi Col,
Many thanks indeed for the info, so the year was '42, looks like AW284 could be a possibility
    .

    Hi Jerry and Col,

you are really right - they got Beaufighters in June 1943 so it must be 30.11.42. I am sorry for this and I am going to correct the date in the book.

Please can you provide link to Photo. Can't understand how all crew could have died if aircraft 'captured' - Unless the photo shows wreckage not whole aircraft

and instead of "AW284 could be a possibility" you mean "AW294 could be a possibility"

    Thanks

BTW I have often thought the number of 'blown up on evacution' or destroyed after force landing in enemy territory' does not always equal facts..

Easier to say 'yes sir I blew/destroyed it' when 'sir could not easy prove otherwise'
