    Default Spitfire R6891 19/11/1940 610 Sqn.

Can anyone supply the name of the pilot of this a/c.
As I understand he was on a training flight from RAF Acklington & bailed out.

    Thank you

    Chris

    Paul,
I have JEI Grey as well, but nothing on CWGC.
Also found that JEI Grey was alive & well in1941.

    Alex,
R6891 DW-Q was very active with 610 sqn during B.o.B

    Alex,

P/O DM Gray Killed 05.11.1940 @ RAF Acklington.
I discovered the site (nil remains) on 11.02.09 after being led there by an Eye witness.
The site is next to a cottage named Inglenook, opposite the old RAF/Prison Quarters. In 19401 the quarters were not there.

    Thanks

    Chris

I think Gray's a/c was X4011, although there is some confusion with accidents at Gatwick, noted in Ray Sturtivants list as being 5/11/40. but if at all, more likely to have been 29/8/40 as is given again earlier in Ray's record. A heavy landing 10/9/40 (Cat M) is also recorded. Whether the a/c was repaired after this or whether different a/c altogether is uncertain.

    Dave,
It would appear from the link below that Gray's a/c during the B.O.B were X4166, L1037,
X4067 (the latter crashed @ Shepherdswell on 24/08/1940)

    www.610squadron.com/about.php?cmd=about_aircraft

It would appear from 22/08/1940 R6891 was mainly occupied by Sgt. RF Hamlyn
