    Default 50 Squadron Lancaster EE189 VN-S

I found what I believe to be 5 of the crew of 50 squadron Lanc EE189 VN-S which crashed at Gross Forste 27th September 1943 buried in Hanover War Cemetery.
Sgts Cameron, Cooke, Jordan, Simpkin and Smith. That does not complete a Lancaster crew though. Also their graves run consecutively 3H10-3H15, so it looks like P/O Malcolm Banks RAAF (in 3H14) was another of the crew. Any ideas from the experts as to who may be missing and where? Thanks in advance

    Tony,

    EE189 had a 7-man crew. Take a look here:

    See: p.184 of 236.

AUS417431 F/Sgt (Air Gnr.) Rodney Coombs TONKIN RAAF, was the sole survivor.

    HI Tony
Col has given the sole survivor,Tonkin the Mid upper gunner. Banks, also RAAF, is recorded as the pilot/captain of the crew. All of those who died were first buried at Grosse Furste but were later moved to Hannover.
The details come from Bomber Command Losses Vol 4 by W R Chorley, including the inference that Tonkin was the M/U Gunner which comes from the order in which the crew is listed although Chorley himself suggests that this is not always accurate. If the link provided by Col is a Casualty File it may also contain a copy of the letter from 50 Sqn to Group that would follow up the signal recording the crew as Missing, this may contain them as listed and annotated with the positions they occupied in the aircraft
    Regards
    Dick

For what it may be worth, the 50sqdn ORB lists them in this order,
    Banks, P.
    Smith, FE.
    Cameron, Nav
    Jordan, W/Op
    Simpkin, M/U.
    Cooke, AB.
    Tonkin, RG.
