Default No 253 squadron exact name

    Hello All,

sounds like a bit funny query, but in many documents is No 253 squadron mentioned like "Hyderabad" in others "Hyderabad - State" squadron and finally "Nizam of Hyderabad".
I think that "Hyderabad" is not correct because there were other gift squadrons (110 & 152) which were named "Hyderabad". Which version is correct?

    any idea is warmly appreciated

    Ahoj Milane,

The Nizam of Hyderabad was patron of No. 110 Squadron first in 1918:
The demi-tiger as the crest of the Nizam of Hyderabad who presented the squadron with its original service aircraft in 1918.

    Note
    1. On the outbreak of WW2 the Nizam contributed towards the cost of three squadrons, so No. 110 once more bore the name "Hyderabad".

So during the WWI there were No. 110, 152 and 253 Squadrons with a joint name "Hyderabad".

    hi,
according to John Rawlings Fighter Sq,s of the RAF, 253 Sq.it says " the Sq. became the Hyderbad gift Sq.and the badge was suggested by the Nizam of Hyderbad as appropriate." it shows " the back of a dexter arm embowed, fessewise, in Mogal armour, the hand holding a Indian battle axe."

    regards

    Ahoj Pavle & Jack,

nothing seems to be easy :o) acording to TNA catalogue and ORB:

    http://discovery.nationalarchives.go...s?uri=C2362973

and Original header of No 253 squadron ORB also states Hyderabad State on every page (could be adjutant´s mistake).

    and one interesting website: http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Hi...sentation.html

and finally your official source Pavel mentioned only Hyderabad gift squadron:
