Default Air Observer x Air Observers School

    Hi all,

while doing proofreading of my text I came over a problem what is correct?

Air Observer School or Air Observers School

Can anybody make this clear for me?

    TIA

The Air-Britain book RAF Flying Training and Support Units says it is Air Observers School. The authors are very careful getting these things correct, so you can trust them!

    Pavel,

    Noted at this website

    http://home.clara.net/griffon/rafh/badge_a.htm

a photograph of the badge for No.1 Air Gunners School, RAF.

    Note, not Air Gunner School.

I think we can safely say, therefore, that Air Observers School is also correct nomenclature.

Just to add to the confusion: the RCAF closely followed RAF practices during the Second World War, but a check of all my references shows that in Canada the terms were:

    Air Observer School (no s)
Naval Air Gunners School (with an s)

I have a graduation book for Course 39 at No. 4 AOS in London, Ontario Canada from 1942 and it uses "Air Observer School".

Thanks a lot Dave and everyone. I will use Air Observer School for the Canadian units.
