Default Sgt P. Bates DFM Flight Engineer 576 and 166 Squadrons 1944-45

Does anyone have the ORB for 576 Squadron and can have a look and tell me why this chap shifted from 576 Squadron to 166 Squadron in late 1944? His log book came up for sale many years ago and the sale info said his first op was Kiel 26.8.44 and he did 8 trips with 576. He was posted back to 1662 Con Unit in Dec 44 where he picked up a new crew (SLdr Waters DFC) and went to 166. He was apparently involved in three crash landings (one on 166). Maybe that is why his first crew was broken up?
Confusingly the sale info also mentions 625 Squadron.

Thank you Col. Can you tell me where the info about Sgt Galvin RAAF came from? Do you know the family?

I see that the original post is sometime ago but I wondered if you knew what had happened to Sgt Bates between leaving 576 and joining 166 Squadron?

Hi, please see original post by me above. Sgt Bates left 576 for 1662 Con Unit where he picked up a new crew captained by S/Ldr Waters. Then that crew joined 166 in, from memory, Jan 45. That info came from the original sale listing for his DFM.
Do you have a particular interest in Sgt Bates, if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry ... just come across this. I am researching 576 Squadron generally.

Upon further research (into aircrew at 576) I see that the 625 ORB SOE shows Sgt Bates 15 Oct 44 at 625 and leaving 2 Dec 44 for 71 Base. From a quick scan of the 625 ORB ROE I do not think he flew with 625.

He flew on 2 training sorties with 625 Sqn, but no ops.
In fond memory of Corporal James Oakland AGC (RMP), killed in action in Afghanistan on 22 October 2009. Exemplo Ducemus.
