Default W/O David Scott Watson RAF-516585

    Hello again,
Can anyone please help telling me where David Scott Watson was born and when. He possibly came from Newcastle on Tyne and may have died in 2008. I cannot confirm this.
He joined the RAF as an Aircraft Hand in 1937, in 1941-2 flew with 134 sqn then went to 112 sqn in the ME. He was shot down on 13-1-43 and taken POW.
Any help would be most helpful.

    Roy, Hi,
Agree with Alan. The possibility is:-

    Birth Registration
    First Name DAVID S
    Last Name WATSON
    Mother's Maiden Name DUFFY
Year 1918 Event Quarter 4 Month of Registration ?
    Country England County Northumberland
    District NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
    Volume 10B Page 181 Line Number 90

Might be a slight problem with his Enlisted number. 516585 is in the block 505001-549999 which Routledge has as being issued to Civilians from Oct 1939.

    Roy,
His POW Liberation Questionnaire from Kew will give you his date of birth, date of enlistment and home address at the time of his capture.

    Hello,

There is no problem with Watson's service number. It fell within the block 505001-549999 - Aircrafthands - June 1925-March 1938 (Watson was a pre-war RAF regular).

See: Aces High Volume 2./Shores p.15.

    See also: http://raf-112-squadron.org/

Enter Watson in the Search Box. The site owner, Robin Brown, is obviously unaware of Watson's forenames.

    Hello gents,
You are so helpful and thanks all for steering me in the right direction.
Thanks Col, I had checked the 112 sqn site before it was altered, it is an improvement. Thanks Nick for the POW Liberation Questionnaire details and to Peter & Alan confirming his birth details.
    Thanks,
    Roy

    Hello mark,
Thanks for showing how 516585 falls between the two blocks. Nothing is simple.
