    Bingo

    824 Sqn HMS Eagle; codes accounted for (9 a/c 1.37-5.39) '945' K8386

The photo related to me has "945" K8386

    "946" K8390
    "948" K8386?
    "950" K8388
    "952" K8391

580 and 582 also listed no serial but prob also Swordfish but definitely 813 Sqn HMS Eagle in same time frame

    K5780/WM, No.715 Flight HMS Cumberland 1937/1938

    Hi Paul,
    From K File

K8386 HMS Eagle survived to hand over Admiralty 24/5/39
    K8388 824 as above
    K8390 824 as above
    K8391 824, fell overboard from Eagle 30.11.37

    K5780 Batten, 15, Lee SOC 23.5.39

From Sturtivant s FAA units -

K8386 Del FAA Pool Gosport 30.11.36, to 824 Sqn Eagle as '945' Jan 37. Photo of this a/c with diagonal black fuselage band and black fin in FE dated 37/38

824 left Portsmouth 23.2.37, was at Hal Far 5.3.37 to 12.3.37, Seletar 9.4.37 then numerous far east cruises calling frequently at Seletar and Kai Tak until 8.39. Can forward exact dates if required but need to lye down in dark room first!

K8388 Del FAA Pool Gosport 3.12.36. To 824 as '950' 1.37 then as above. DL accident Eagle 31.1.38 F/O Dickson unhurt. Still with Eagle 12.39

    K8390 Del FAA Pool Gosport 3.12.36 . To 824 as '946' 1.37 to 12.39. Operated as seaplane 4.37.

K8391 Del FAA Pool Gosport 7.12.36. To 824 as '952' 1.37. DLP off Hong Kong , caught two wires, fell overboard, sank. Cat W 30.11.37. F/L J D Miller RAF rescued.

K5780 FF 19.6.36. Allocated Mt Batten for 403 Flt 5th Cruiser Sqn in HMS Cumberland 22.6.36. SoNC pool Lee on Solent 7.8.36. 715 Flt 5th Cruiser Sqn in Cumberland as 'WM' on China Station, leaving Portsmouth 18.8.36. Photo , taken on a carrier, shows large 'WM' on nose and black stripe on fin below T/p. Also 715 Flight in HMS Cornwall as '2'. Disembarked Lee on Solent Pool 1.11.38, and Lee on Solent Pool 9.1.39 ( sorry thats what it says!?) SOC 23.5.39.

So seems like China connection, good luck!
