Default Sgt Kalat, 2 SFTS, Brize Norton

    Guys,

Sgt Kalat of the Polish Air Force was killed in February/March 1941 at 2 SFTS at Brize Norton.

I believe he was one of many killed in car accidents throughout their training or as ground crew/instruction at 2 SFTS.

    Does anyone have any details?

    Regards,

    Nick

Flight Sgt Kazimierz Kalat, born 4 Mar 1905 died 8 Feb 1941 not in an aircraft accident but buried at Black Bourton.

This info from the massive and detailed schedule of all Poles serving in their air force.

    Colin,

Great stuff. Could you point me in the direction of that web site as it has not come over my radar. Does it tell us what he was doing there?

It is my understanding that he died in a car crash, like many others listed in the various training units that l have looked through.

Mixture of fast cars and bikes, beer, fast living and more important blackouts, l would assume.

    Nick,

It's not a website but a published book which came my way from Franek. A copy is held at the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum in London. If you ask them, they also probably have his personal file.

The information I took is no more than that actually published. Can I suggest you get a copy of his death certificate, which will show the cause of death. I haven't checked but if you search FreeBMD website, it allows you to see not only the person you seek but also any others who appear on the same and adjacent pages of the Deaths Register.

I have now looked briefly at the FreeBMD website. Kalat is recorded in the deaths for Oxford in the March 1941 period Page 3a3438.

I did not find any other Polish names on that page but if there were they could be on the page before or after.
