    Default Unaccounted airmen - 29-10-1940

    What caused the death of and/or what were the places of death registration for:

    AC1 Albert E. COWNDEN - 841926 - 2 BC 903 (Balloon) Sqn Forest Hill, Surry - died of wounds or injuries received on active service;
    AC1 Harold ELLIOTT - 1158425 - killed on active service;
    AC1 Luis B. HARRADINE - 1152333 - killed on active service;
    AC2 Thomas ROTHWELL - 988405 - 257 Sqn (North Weald, Essex) - killed on active service;
    AC1 Thomas H. SAUNDERS - 950759 - died of wounds or injuries received on active service - 249 Sqn (North Weald, Essex), and
    LAC (Pilot u/t) Wilfred D. SHAW - 192605 - not found Flight archives.

    North Weald was this day one of the Luftwaffe targets.

    Proposed aircraft losses for this day:
    Blenheim IV - N3535 - 2 SAC - crashed on approach Andover.
    Spitfire I - N3050 - 7 OTU - crashed in forced landing near Chester.
    Tiger Moth II - N5457 - 9 EFTS - flew into ground Brinklow, near Coventry.

    Hi Henk
    Elliott,29, Harradine,35, Rothwell,28, and Saunders,20, are all registered at Epping which would be right for N Weald. Cownden,35, is registered at Surrey Mid East, and Shaw.20, is registered at Chippenham,Wiltshire

    T.H. Saunders wounded in air raid on North Weald on 29/10/40 'he was admitted to St. Margaret's Hospital in Epping where he died next morning'. (249 at War - Brian Cull)

    AC1 Luis B. HARRADINE - 1152333 - the National Probate Calendar records that he did indeed die at Royal Air Force Station North Weald, Essex.
