Default 'Blind' Bacon - Huricane pilot

Anybody know the full details of this incident (full name, date, unit etc):

" 'Blind' Bacon's flying career ended in late 1943 when, during a fighter sweep, enemy fire tore into his cockpit, hitting his left thigh and backside. He made it back to base and when being removed from his Hurricane requested that "someone fly back out and look for his ass as it was shot off somewhere over France". Unluckily, Bacon lost his leg below the hip and spent the rest of the war flying a desk."
He was an American and joined the RAF in 1941.

    John,

No luck I'm sorry to say. He is not listed as one of the Eagle Squadron pilots in 'AMERICAN PILOTS IN THE RAF' by Philip D. Caine. Nor do I see his name in the index of 'IMMIGRANTS OF WAR' by F. Peter Fydenchuk.
Most American pilots who joined in 1941 probably enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Hugh Halliday might be able to confirm this or not if he sees this post.

    Regards,

    Martin Gleeson.
