    Default Potsdam conference

    Hi,

On 25 july 1945 the escort of aircraft of Winston Churchill from the Potsdam conference is carried -amongst- by Spitfire of n145 Wing. Does anybody the type of a/c it was ?

    TIA

    Bertrand,

I do not know for certain but I expect the aircraft used by Churchill and Mr Attlee, who would take over from Churchill as prime minister, was an Avro York, serial number LV633 and named Ascalon. It might, however, have been the Douglas Skymaster of which the RAF had a couple of dozen for VVIP and route flying tasks.

If I'm wrong, somebody will come up with the answer soon!

    Hello,

Churchill departed Gatow in Douglas C-54B Skymaster EW999 (ex-43-17126), on the 25th July 1945, arriving back at Northolt at 2:45 in the afternoon.
