Hello All,

The Army have their RSMs and CSMs. The Navy have their Regulators and Fleet Masters At Arms.

But today I saw a picture of the parade at Portsmouth. I think it was (inter alia) The Queen’s Colour Sqn of the RAF. There was a magnificently uniformed, and be-medalled, Flt Sgt. I do not mind admitting that I would be very wary (both as an Airman and an Officer!!) of getting on the wrong side of this gentleman!

Knowing one’s place in The Pecking Order was/is important – as was/is progression ‘Up The Ladder’ – but knowing that the whole ‘System’ was/is kept in order by fearsome SNCOs like this (regardless of the interference of Officers!!!) was crucial in my day. I hope it is still the same today?!!
