    Default F/O Mieczyslaw Wyszkowski

Did Mieczyslaw Wyszkowski become a POW 18Apr43 whilst flying with the PFT and if so did he spend the remainder of the war as a prisoner or was he liberated before he could be evacuated from Tunisia.

Thoses Other Eagles, by Chris Shores, states that "he joined the PFT on 18Apr43 and following service during the closing stages of the Tunisian Campaign, he remained in the Mediterranean area until the end of the war."

This statement must be incorrect because he claimed a Bf 109 prob on 06Apr43 with PFT/145 Sqn.

    Best Regards

    Andy,

    Full story here: http://www.polishairforce.pl/wyszkowski.html

Perhaps a board reader with knowledge of the Polish language can pinpoint and translate the paragraph that has the answers for you.

    Regards,

    Leendert

Wyszkowski was downed on 18 April 1943 when tried to attack the enemy on his own and separated from the formation. PFT or PCT never got any replacements, and Wyszkowski was original member of the unit. Fortunately he survived to write his memories.

Just one more note. A photo of his downed Spitfire ZX-0 is among others at RAFM collection.
I would love to know, who had downed him!
