[ At rest along with five others who were KIA on the night of 9/10th September 1944 in an aircraft crash in Greece.
The remains were so burned as the result of fire that they were dealt with as per the majority nationallity of casualties.
Hence they are in the USA, If I am correct the remains must have been found at a late date as at least one British Royal Engineer casualty was interned the USA on 22nd May 1951 ].

A/c is reported to have been C-47 43-16070 (But this seems not to be correct asthis a/c has a post WW2 history) -
43-16070 (c/n 20536) to Pacific Airlines as NC67588, in 1953 user was Southwest
Airways, to Blatz Airlines, leased to Universal Airlines as N67588, to Majestic Air Cargo
as N67588. W/o May 24, 1998 when ran out of fuel and crashed
in marsh at Unalakleet Airport 5 mi NW of Anchorage, AK. { http://cgibin.rcn.com/jeremy.k/cgi-b...&content=C-47A }. no other "70" in the lists seems to fit either.

a/c "70" - 9/10 September 1944 - Pilot: Captain. Davison, Paul E. jr - MACR 16195.
Perhaps the "70" was an a/c in Squadron number rather than part of the a/c serial number ?

Ken Merrick, in his "Flights of the Forgotten", (p.217), identifies the C-47 as: 43-48314.

The old Air-Britain - The Douglas DC-3 and its Predecessors/Gradidge,1984 (pp.545 & 547), mentions the following:

C-47B-1-DK - 43-48263 to 43-48562 (with two exceptions) - Contract No.AC-40652.

14130/25575 - 43-48314..
Delivered: 3 August 1944.
12th Air Force, Italy: 8 August 1944.
Condemned: 16 September 1944 - Missing.

Hello

CLEAVER, Stanley Franz - F/O - 105697 - the Gloucestershire Echo of September 13th 1944 reported the inquest into his death. He had been found shot dead at Waterloo Station. The inquest heard that he had been struck full in the face by a cricket ball in July, which resulted in the loss of five teeth. His wife told the inquest that he was unable to relax afterwards, and she did not think he had recovered from the experience. A fellow officer at this unit stated that he was a very conscientious officer, but had never recovered from a recent bout of influenza, and may have been depressed by the loss of his teeth. A verdict of suicide while the balance of the mind was disturbed was recorded.

ROBINSON, Walter Moston - W/O (Pilot) - 1045202 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at Hayes, Middlesex.

Alice Jane Oates 2092833 , attached to Number 70 ITW, became seriously ill on 7th September, dying in RAF Driffield hospital of enchapalitis

Ernest Bate 1873678 , was involved in a road accident with an item of construction plant on 7 september and was admitted to 6 MSFU Field hospital suffering from compound fractures of the Maxilla and mandible with severe lacerations of the mouth and larynx, he was operated upon but died of his injuries

Were both killed in Mosquito NS 565 which crashed near Hayes shortly after taking off from RAF Northolt. The aircraft was initially reported as being NS 515 which was actually lost later that year with a USAAF crew

Bertram Errol Burrowes 1282840 , was killed at RAF Upwood at 11:25 hours when the bomb load of Lancaster ND 978 exploded accidently
