Default 105 502 F/Lt Donald Robertson Summers Kyd - Staff Officer 19 Gp HQ 1942-43

    Hi all,

I am looking for any information about above mentioned officer who is believed was serving at 19 GP Hq in 1942-1943 (possibly in other rank).
Particularly I am after a flying accident during a service flight in which this officer was badly injured - both legs broken.
Later he was tranferred to Aircraft Control Branch and in late 50s he served at RAF Eastleight in Kenya.

    Any info much appreciated

    TIA

    Pavel,

    Good Morning,

Kyd was born on 28 January 1909 and commissioned into the RAF on 30 August 1941 but I do not know if he had any service as an airman, what it was or for how long. He was promoted to flight lieutenant on 1 September 1945 and retired from the RAF on 1 March 1964.

His name appears in the Retired List for 1982 but is gone by 2007 but I don't have his date of death although can search for it if you wish.

I have no record of his postings and I do not know whether he held any acting, temporary or war substantive rank, nor do I know when he transferred to the GD (Ground) Branch - where air traffic controllers are listed. Some of this information will be available from the London Gazette.

Hope this gets you started but the LG will certainly have dates of transfer from one branch of service to another. His postings will probably be most easily obtained from his Record of Service.

    Hi Colin,

many thanks for the overview, yes I will search LG for the ranks and transfers.
So now the most interesting thing is the accident in which he was injured.

    hello Pavel

To me, his injuries were severe enough so that a mention could be found in the pages of flight. I've just tried Flight archives online but couldn't find him. But others might try and succeed... Sometimes search engines can be very strange...

Good point Joss, many thanks! Yes he should be listed on some kind of Dangerously injured list but as you said - I tried several key words but also with no luck:(

Hi all, I found some dditional info to this chap in the ORB RAF Talbenny:

    17.8.42 attached to Flying Control
    24.10.42 posted to Chivenor

Anyone could follow his service in RAF Chivenor ORB?

Still no luck with finding details about his crash - if it was true.
