Default Any record of loss of Wellington 11/12/42 on take off.

I am trying to trace more detail of the following (taken from the log book of Geoffrey J North) who went on to serve with 428,76,35 squadrons before being taken pow in February 1945)

"Flying with 15 OTU at Harwell, 11/12/42 Take off 19.10. Wellington 1043 (?),
pilot Ft. Sgt. Hall, duty not recorded. Crashed on take off. A/C burned out."

As 'duty not recorded' it may have been a training flight-which makes it more difficult, and no positive serial number.

    My grateful thanks,
    Paul H

    Hello,

Here are the details from Chorley:

    11 Dec 1942
    15 OTU
    Wellington IC Z1093
    Training

T/o 1913 Harwell with the intention of carrying out a night training flight but, due to incorrect flap settings, the Wellington failed to become airborne. With insufficient runway left in which to bring the aircraft to a stop, F/S Hall retracted the undercarriage and moments later the bomber skidded, at high speed, into the overshoot area where the starboard engine commenced to burn.

    F/S G Hall

    BCL7/182

The above is the total entry from Chorley - no further details.

    Many thanks Col.
I think we can add Sgt G J North to the crew list, Air gunner.
