It has now been established that W5000 was in fact QR-N and NOT QR-B
In memory of the crew of 61 Sqn Lancaster III W5000 QR - B who departed from Syerston at 23.39 on 2 August 1943 and died at 02.02 on 3 August 1943, F/O Richard Lyon, Sgt George Hodges, F/O Eric Povey, Sgt Dennis Dalton, Sgt George McKenzie, Sgt John Padley & Sgt Benjamin Robinson who lost their lives on the Hamburg raid of 2/3 August 1943. Having been missing for 70 years the location of the crashsite is now known beyond reasonable doubt as is their final resting place Per Puram Tonantes ( Thundering through the clear air)

Hi Tony.
I am brand new to this site and also very new to computers and messaging. I have attempted to reach you from (I think) a different site but on the same subject. You have listed here a "George MacKenzie" as one of the crew. He was Gordon William Mackenzie and my full cousin. It also appears that there may be a memorial at the crash site and I would obviously want a copy of any photographs that may exist. I would also welcome the opportunity to write to as many of the crew relatives as possible. I live in Canada now and at 80 years of age very unsure if I will ever be able to visit the crash site so anything I can gain via this web site would be most welcome.
Regards,
Robert Allan
