Just a minor point, the 31 ANS Anson was N5353. It was common for RCAF records to omit the letter prefix in these cases. There were 4 fatalities, none of the bodies were never found. It is assumed the aircraft ditched in Lake Huron during a navigation exercise. Some clothing and navigation instruments washed ashore the next day.

    Bill,

Thanks. Have amended entry. l mistakenly omitted the "N" prefix, being fully aware that there was no Canadian Anson marked 5353.

    Hi Paul,
My name is Paul Winch, second son of Harry James Winch.
I have a lot of information given me by my father relating to this accident because it haunted him for years.
I got to talk to him a few years before he died and he always felt that the plane sinking was his fault. It would be nice to make contact with yourself or anyone else interested.
    Kind regards
    Paul Winch

Thanks for replying I I only posted this because I saw the information in the Sqn Operatonal Records Book (ORB) which I have a copy

However recently P/O Boresham Casualty file had even deposited at the National Archives it may contain more info on accident and even some infomafion from you dad the reference is below

Strangely it does not mention Cunningham in the name but the casualty files were maintained at a crew level

AIR 81/1595 1939 Jan 01 - 1948 Dec 31 Pilot Officer J W Boreham: missing believed killed; Anson N5055, School of Air Navigation; aircraft accident, 19 October 1939

    Kind Regards

I live in North Devon, and I am writing about all the aircrashes in our area. This is the first one on my list, and I have the details from the AVIA files at Kew. I would be grateful if you could contact me at: rob.palmer598@btinternet.com and we can discuss this case.
