Default F/O DUBOIS ; canadian Wireless Air Gunner june 1943 ?

    Hi,

I am not able to find the complete name of a Free French (???) WA/G with n342 sqdn in june 1943. His name is DUBOIS. I have only two flights on 12 and 16 june 1943. He was with Cdt de Rancourt and F/Lt Ronald Oldham (http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...0342-sqdn%29);, this Dubois had a rank of F/O.

Could it be a Canadian aircrew ?

    TIA

    Bertrand

    Hi,

New info : P/O Dubois, F/O Oldham and de Rancourt were together during 17 OTU (october 1942) then n226 sqdn from december 1942 to march 1943 before posted to n342 sqdn

    Hello

No trace of posting in for these 3 names in the Squadron ORB for December 1942 (and before and after).

A quick check makes me find only one occurrence for P/O DUBOIS (no other detail) on 24 January 1943 : "Aircraft recognition test by P/O DUBOIS" which I understand means he organised the test for the other aircrews of the Squadron. Other entries mentions lectures on various subjects (tactics, armament, etc...) delivered by officers.

Default RAF Wireless Air Gunner P/O DUBOIS early 1943

    Hi,

According to his archives de Rancourt flew with Oldham/Dubois for ops missions on :

    -21/1/43 : Cherbourg
    -25/1/43 : Flushing
    -13/2/43 : Boulogne
    -15/2/43 : Dunkerque

    with n226 sqdn..

In his war diary (autumn 1942) he wrote that Dubois was English : "un non moins excellent radio mitrailleur 100% anglais malgr son nom, DUBOIS" (no less excellent wireless air gunner 100% English despite his name : DUBOIS "

Yes for months of april/may/june 1943 Dubois organised also the test for the other aircrews of the n342 sqdn "Lorraine".

So is there an English air gunner with the name of Dubois in the RAF archives ?

    Hello

I was checking the form 541 and I had just found the 21st January 1943 entry, and was coming back to the board when I saw your message.

I confirm P/O B. DUBOIS as gunner with De Rancourt and R. OLDHAM, bombing Cherbourg docks flying AL728 "Y", 1202-1438 but I suspect that the box they belonged to didn't bomb, because of clouds.
Same crew on AL285 "L" against Flushing dry docks on the 25th, 1046-1243.
Same crew on AL750 "Z" against a motor vessel in Boulogne outer Harbour, 13 February 0914-1044.
Same crew + Sgt G.N. BAILEY (mid under gunner probably) on AL750 "Z" against a motor vessel in dock No 5 in Dunkirk, 1208-1345.

Next step is to trawl through the London Gazette... For a B. DUBOIS.

    I found a Basil Francis Dubois https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...upplement/4438
who was commissioned from Flight Sergeant, with effect from 9 September 1942. He might fit.
