    Default ORB RAF Station Coningsby

    Hello,
Is there anyone who has access to ORB RAF Station Coningsby?
I wonder if there are any details recorded that refer to the raid on Gdynia on 27/28 August 1942 that involved two Squadrons: 97 and 106 stationed in Coningsby at that time?
    Regards,
    Greg

    Grexx:

Would this be of help...from 97 Sq ORB:

    27/28 August 1942 Gydnia

    R5548A S/L E.Coton, Sgt A.R.Airy, F/L R.A.Boddington, Sgts M.H.Middleton, A.O.Stafford, G.L.Johnson, G.F.McMahon. Up 1940 Down 2221. Mission abandoned. Returned owing to petrol leakage.
R5614C F/L J.B.Smyth, P/O R.A.Hoyle (2nd Pilot). P/O H.L.Creeth, W/O J.L.Canham , Sgts B.Robertson, W.Broomfield, H.W.Howard. (no times shown) Primary target bombed. Bomb believed to have burst on the Graf Zeppelin in Gydnia Port. Visibility limited but good. 3/10ths cloud prevented Bomb Aimer from seeing the target until we were right over it. Little opposition was encountered from flak or searchlights.
R5607K F/Sgt P.R.Baines, Sgt J.Stewart (2nd Pilot), F/Sgt W.C.Isted, Sgt Smith, F/S W.H.P.Kelleher, Sgts W.F.Guy, P.B.Martin. Up 2017 Down 0515. Target was found easily but the individual ships were very difficult to locate. The bomb was seen to burst on the docks of the Gneisenau’s berth but no actual result was observed. Visibility good although there was a ground haze. Flak and searchlights not as heavy as expected.
    R5609 (no letter shown) W/O F.M.Falls, Sgt J.Lennox (2nd Pilot), P/O P.D.Hallam, F/Sgt Henley, F/Sgt R.S.Canham, Sgt W.Mather, F/Sgt J.Goldie. Up 1948 Down 2208 – mission abandoned owing to the failure of the port outer engine. Bombs brought back.
R5496Z P/O N.J.Briant, P/O F.McBurney, P/O L.C.Dorward, F/Sgt Beaumont, Sgts A.H.Desmond, J.R.Dawson, P/O K.H.Harrison. Up 2032 Down 0504. Everything went according to plan until target was reached. On run up, intense light flak was encountered, west of the Hole. Bombs believed to have fallen near village of Puck, due to the inexperience of Bomb Aimer. Base reached without incident.
R5572F F/O C.D.Keir, Sgts W.McLeod, H.H.Jenkins, P/O R.B.Murphy, Sgts C.H.Shepherd, K.C.Saw, E.Wharton. Up 1952 Down 0413. Primary objective believed bombed. Pin-point obtained on Hole and docks seen through break in clouds. Bombs caused an enormous flash and smoke seen to about 8,000’. Returned without incident.
