    Default RAFO Service Numbers

    from

Aces High Volume Two by Christopher Shores (Grub Street; First Edition (January 1, 1999)) ISBN 1902304039

    60000-69999 RAFVR, January-June 1941
70000-70999 Reserve of Air Force Officers
    72000-89999 RAFVR, 1937-January 1941

    I wonder if

70000-70999 Reserve of Air Force Officers

is a typo ?? and should be 70000-71999

Has any one got a Reserve of Air Force Officer with a higher service number than 70999 ?? but in the '7' range thanks paul

Out of interest the first 10 airmen in 70000 range are

    70000 George Mills Adams
    70001 John Nares Addinsell
    70002 Barry Thomson Aikman
    70003 Marmaduke Jonathan Rowland Alderson
    70004 Cyril Percy Allen
    70005 Charles William John Allen
    70006 William James Alington
    70007 William Allan
    70008 John Laurance Allen
    70009 *** Unknown ***
    70010 Douglas George Allison

As they were RAFO on various dates, it appears they were retrospectively allocated Service Numbers in Surname order sometime, probably around 1939 based on assumption as William ALLAN (70007). -> FO (ASD) 27. 8.39 while M. J. R. 'Rowley' ALDERSON (70003) -> 1930
