    Default Vickers Vildebeest

    Hi all,
Do you know whether or not Vickers Vildebeest was still operating under sq.22 (North Cotes) in June 1940, or the squadron was already fully equipped with Beauforts? I appreciate for info and sources...

    Default Vildebeest

    G'day

According to Wing Commander Jefford's book "R.A.F. Squadrons":

    Vildebeest Mk. III
    May 1935 - February 1940

    Vildebeest Mk. IV
    May 1938 - February 1940

    Bristol Beaufort Mk. I
    November 1939 - July 1944

Air Britain's 'The Squadrons of the Royal Air Force" says the same thing.

    Cheers...Chris

    Hi,

Although not in operational use the last Vildebeest were struck off squadron charge on 20th Feb 1940.

The bulk had been SOC 21st Dec 1939 when the first Beauforts arrived Dec 39/Jan 40.

    Regards
    Ross
