    Form 1180 raised for this accident is available from the RAF Museum at Hendon.

    Flight is confirmed as non operational night interception.

    1 killed, 1 seriously injured

    Fairweather annotated by Form 412 (Court of Inquiry) as 622 hrs total, 32hrs on type, 20hrs on type at night.

    AOCinC comments:
    Accident due to fact that a/c was not handed over to Flying Control for homing. Operational Controller committed an error of judgement in this respect.
    Low cloud base contributed.
    Pilot failed to check altimeter and flew into side of hill.
    Accident may have been averted of Ops Control had handed over to Flying Control.

    Thomas Edward Millen 1461808 , attached to Number 372 RSU , was listed as missing, believed POW, but was later changed to a battle casualty and buried in Corinth cemetery

    Colin Glover Neck 178124 , attached to 2 TAF Base , was dangerously wounded on duty in a V weapon incident on 17 December. Initially reported missing, he had been taken to Number 9 General hospital where he died as a result of his injuries

    Ronald Jack Palmer 641645 , was seriously injured in at off duty MT accident on the Foggia Road at 22:15 Hours and was admitted to Number 4 RAF General hospital where he died at 01:15 Hours

    Joseph Doyle 1070133 , was dangerously injured in a MT accident at 19:30 hours on the 19 December on the San Severo to Foggia Road. Admitted to Number 4 American field hospital, he died there of his injuries .
