WHITE, Arthur Verey - died at The Crescent Hotel, Horton Crescent, Rugby. Source is the National Probate Calendar on ancestry.co.uk.

There's a F/Lt A V White listed as DOAS in Casualty Communiqué number 497, Flight Magazine, April 26th 1945, page 462. I can't find another "A V White" of the RAF on the CWGC website apart from Arthur Verey White.

Arthur Verey WHITE - There is a death registered in Rugby of Arthur Y White, aged 47 (same as CWGC record for this casualty), which could be a typo.

Shepley's death is registered in Scotland, I've not looked up the entry though.

The No.7 AOS ORB gives the following list for LT431

December 29th 1944, “The following S.N.C.O’s and airmen were killed in an aircraft accident when aircraft Anson L.T.431 crashed at Crossgar today:-
    1443879 F/Sgt Sweeting, E. Pilot
    1130078 W/O Pattinson, J. Nav
    1461233 F/Sgt Ames, H.V. Wop/Air
    2236051 AC2 Pryor ACH u/t Wop
    1898649 AC2 Sorgatz ACH u/t Wop”

You are correct about Shepley's death being registered in Scotland. Sadly he committed suicide at RAF Grangemouth, Stirlingshire.

I know someone who knew his family and they thought that was the case.

With regards to T.T. Shepley on the main list it states see Pattinson, who was possibly on Anson 1 LT431, as does 8 in total, then in post 5 it gives a list of 5 on LT431, so why the other 3?, unless they survived the crash, but then why did Shepley commit suicide in Scotland? not being ghoulish just tidying loose ends...

I think Malcolm was offering the seven names he tagged with "see Pattinson" in post #2 as possible casualties for the Anson, and then Alan confirmed which ones were the five actual casualties in post #5.

Shepley (post #6) and White (post #3) are also now accounted for, so that leaves Holmes.

HOLMES 1458454 - listed on Scotland's People. Place of death is given as "south bank of Pow Burn, Airfield, Prestwick", Ayr, and cause of death is due to "mulitple injuries (flying accident)". Anyone got an associated aircraft loss?

    Simon
