Is that Dakota IV KN271? Colin Cummings' book "Thought Without Anger" has the crew list, and mentions that no cause for the loss is known.

Sqn Ldr Z W HIRSZ, Polish Air Force, pilot
    P/O D WASHER, co-pilot
    F/Sgt W R GREGORY, Nav
    F/Lt H B CLARKE, W/Op

Ditched off east coast of Greenland 450 mi W of Reykjavik during ferry flight from BW-1 to Reykjavik.

    Regards

    Thanks Simon

That is certainly the one I am looking for! I just wanted to confirm the pilot's name was the same as the man I am researching - and it is!

I was given the aircraft serial from a third party so I assume that KB271 is wrong and KN271 is correct.

Thanks for a very quick answer

    Hello Chris,

Thanks for that additional information. But how do you know that? Since all the crew were killed, did they manage to send a distress signal? If so, did they give any other information? This has been my lucky day - all I need now is a photo of the pilot!

    Regards
    Neville
