    Default loss 75 Squadron Stirling EF408, 22/23.6.1943

    Dear all,

I am looking for any information about the crash location and time of crash of 75 Squadron Stirling EF408, which was shot down by Flak in the Gelsenkirchen area on 22/23 June 1943. Whole crew was killed, two were RNZAF.

    Cheers and thanks, Theo

    Theo,

Unfortunately if there was an MRES report on either of the RNZAF men's (Bisset and Samson) service records it appears to have been purged from their files.

    Hello Errol,

Cheers and thanks for that -sad news that both MRES reports appear to be missing from these RNZAF files.. I've no confirmation yet from my German contacts, but I believe that EF408 was shot down by heavy Flak of 3. and 4./s. 112, 2. and 4./s. 471 and 1. and 4./s. 382; these units claimed a Stirling destroyed at Gelsenkirchen Buer (Erle) at 01.35 hrs. No other heavy bomber loss on 22-23 June 1943 can be matched to these Flak claims.

    Cheers, Theo
