    Steve,

Appleton was one of six people killed in Dakota KG598 of 512 Sqn which crashed at El Adem. The aircraft was overshooting a missed approach and the co-pilot raised the flaps instead of the undercarriage and the aircraft crashed and caught fire but 13 people survived. the other fatal casualties were: P/O B P Van Boolen, F/S C F Blair, W/C C T T R Bouchet, F/S R A Mills and F/S D G Patten.

    Dear Colin,

    Thank you.

F/Lt Douglas Appleton DFC completed a tour with No.218 & 623 Squadron in 1943, how tragic.

    Regards
