Default Soldier killed in Norfolk Spitfire crash 15-2-45

    Hi all:

At 1555 hours on 15 Feb 1945, 124 Sqn Spitfire HF.IX PV212 flown by F/Sgt P B Allen crashed into a building in the grounds of Mundesley Sanitorium, Norfolk, during dive-bombing practice. The site was being used as an army barracks at the time and in addition to the pilot, one soldier was killed in the building by the crashing aircraft, which burst into flames. I am reliably informed that there are 18 soldiers in the UK with 15-2-45 as recorded date of death. Would some kind soul with access to death registration data please identify the most likely to have been involved in this incident?

    TIA,

    Bob C

    Hello,

5126278 Pte Eric MELLEY, looks a possibility:

Allen's death registered North Walsham, Norfolk, likewise Melley.

    Paul and Col,

TVM for your help. Quite surprised there is little written about this incident, esp as one person was killed on the ground. Thanks for another little piece in the East Anglian jigsaw.
