Default Walrus crew details 278 Sqn 6 Mar 1945

    Hi all,

Could somebody please provide a few more details on the crew of 278 (ASR) Sqn Walrus I L2271 'S' which crashed in the sea off Flamborough Head in obscure circumstances at 1055 hours on 6 March 1945? Malcolm R Holmes in 'RAF Beccles at War 1943-45' identifies the three as Flt Lts Robertson and Walker, and W/O Leonard Carpenter. As these were believed to have been the only flying casualties sustained by units based at Ellough (aka Beccles) during its brief wartime history, I am interested in finding out a bit more about them, particularly whether any bodies were recovered. The above book states only a small amount of oil and wreckage were visible at the crash spot by Seagulls which searched.
    TIA for any help.

Can’t get Walker to come up on CWGC

Doesn’t look like a weather related problem. (At Spurn and Tynemouth 1200Z 6/3/45) Wind N to NW Force 6, good vis, layer of Sc at 2500 ft.
