Default Seeking names of Wittering Air Raid victims

    Afternoon All

Seeking names of those individuals killed in three separate air raids at RAF Wittering as follows

14 Mar 41; 17 personnel believed killed (only one name already confirmed - F/O P.C. Thornely)

    7 May '41: 5 personnel believed killed

    8 May '41: 1 (officer?) believed killed

Thanks in advance for any assistance

    Tony, Hi,

    Deaths Mar Qtr 1941
    Thornley Philip C 34 Peterboro' 3b 627

    On the same Peterborough Page:

    Deaths Mar Qtr 1941
    GILMORE Thomas 21 Peterbro' 3b 627
    Lowe Percival P 21 Peterbro' 3b 627
    Thornley Philip C 34 Peterboro' 3b 627

Ages look right for Service Deaths? Try Stamford for the same date? Note spelling of 'Thornley'?

I found the following in Action Stations Vol 6.

17/3/41 - 3 killed + 2 died of wounds and 15 others wounded. Dates of doi not given
    7/5/41 - 5 killed
    8/5/41 - 1 killed - Pilot Officer CARLIN of 151 Sqn

The book gives a summary of the raids.

I checked the CWGC website and there are several 'likely candidates' but I have not researched these names through the statutory BMD records - sorry!
