    Default 140 Sqdn Mosquito (MM271) accident January 2. 1944

    Hello All

    Mosquito PRXVI (MM271) 140 Sqdn RAF - Swung on overshoot and stalled Hartfordbridge January 2. 1944
    Mosquito burned (DBF). Crew injured.
    Can anyone help determine the names of the crew Mosquito MM271?

    I found F/O L.T. Hersham and Sgt L.W Preston.

    In pilot list is not F / O L.T. Hersham. Perhaps the new pilot. Perhaps retired after injury.

    Hi Pavel,

    F.541 doesn't mention the incident but the F.540 states that F/O L.T. MERSHAM and Sgt L.W. PRESTON crashed when landing in a Mosquito XVI so this is probably the crew of MM271.

    Hello ,

    On page nr 2 of the ORB you can find :
    F/O LT Mersham and Sgt LW Preston brought to the Cambridge Hospital Aldershot after their crashlanding.

    Re: 1399275 Sgt (Nav.) Leslie William PRESTON RAFVR.

    Sgt Preston was awarded a George Medal for his actions in saving life in aircraft accidents on 24th November, 1943 (No.140 Sqn [PR] Sqn., Mosquito MM248), and 2nd January, 1944 (No.140 Sqn [PR] Sqn., Mosquito MM271).
