What caused the death of following airmen who died of wounds or injuries received on active service (Flight Global):

AC2 Frederick W. NUTTER - 986799, buried Burnley Cem., Lancashire (UK524), and


AC2 Stanley T. SUMPTER - 903630, buried Burry Cem., Huntingdonshire (UK2360).


Aircraft write-offs for this day:


Hart T - K4991 - 7 FTS - crashed on landing Peterborough, damaged in heavy landing; became a GI airframe.

Hart T - K6459 - 7 FTS - same as K4991.

Hurricane I - P3666 - 6 OTU - bellylanded Sutton Bridge.

AC2 Frederick W. NUTTER - 986799 - the Lancashire Evening Post of June 8th 1940 reported the following:

BURNLEY YOUTH A NAZI VICTIM
The aircraftman who lost his life when at one R.A.F. aerodrome on Thursday night bombs were dropped on a flare path was a Burnley youth, 18-year-old Frederick William Nutter.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nutter, of Russell Street, Burnley, have had word that he received shrapnel wounds and subsequently died from his injuries.
Aircraft Nutter had been in the R.A.F. two months, volunteering for service. until joining up, he was employed at a Burnley coach building works.

This would have been R.A.F. Greatham?

Hello

NUTTER, Frederick William - AC2c - 986799 - newspaper reports record that he died from injuries sustained when German bombers attacked 'an RAF aerodrome in England'. His death was registered at Stockton-on-Tees, so presumably the airfield was R.A.F. Thornaby?

O'BRIEN, James - Air Mech 2c - FX.76797 - ADM 104 records that he died as the result of multiple injuries sustained in an aircraft taxying accident at R.N.A.S. Ford.

Sumpter - He was serving with No 17 OTU and was killed in an air raid on Upwood.

Yorkshire.. Thornaby.. Bombs were dropped on Thornaby Aerodrome at 00.15 which killed an airman and injured three others. Two Hudson Bombers and two fuel bowsers were destroyed and the runway damaged.
