    Default loss 51 Squadron Halifax MZ349 12-13.8.1944

    Dear all,

For the NJWD 2nd ed. research, I am looking for info -survivors accounts- on the loss of 51 Squadron Halifax MZ349 on 12-13.8.1944. Four of the crew (three RAF and one RCAF) survived a ditching off the German (?) coast, I would be very interested in any info re. the cause of loss (Flak or night fighter), the approx. place of the ditching and time of loss.

    Cheers and thanks, Theo

    Hi Mike,

Cheers and thanks for sharing the link, very interesting! Although the report mentions cause of loss as Flak, I'm not sure of this, none of the documented Flak claims for 12-13.8.44 can be positively tied to this loss.. I do have a NF claim though that could well make a match:

    Uffz. Koppelmeyer: 2 6./NJG1 4-mot sea NW Spiekeroog-Wangeroog Islands: 4.500 m. 00.55 prob. 51 Sqn Halifax MZ349

    Cheers, Theo
