    26 April 1944.

    30 OTU
    Wellington DF640 -P

    Crew.
    F/O. N A R. Mousdell +
    Sgt. E D. MacDonald +
    Sgt. H D. Purbrick +

Took off Hixon for night circuit training, Landed 0134 hrs but bounced rather badly. The crew attempted to go round again, but their aircraft failed to gain height and flew into a hill, 250 feet above sea level and known locally as Weston Bank, near the airfield, bursting into flames on impact amongst some trees. F/O. Mousdell of Liverpool was laid to rest in Chester (Blacon) Cemetery. Sgt MacDonald rests in the extension to Ennerdale (St.Mary) Churchyard, while Sgt. Purbrick lies in Yatton Keynell (St.Margaret) Churchyard. Their Wellington, while being flown in by F/O. B A. Mace RAAF, had been involved in a minor flying accident on 11 August 1943.

    Hi Linda

Wellington III, DF640 of 30 OTU crashed on overshoot at Weston Bank, Stafford, south of Brick Kiln Lane during night circuit training. Landed 01.34 but bounced badly and an attempt was made to round again. Failing to gain height, the a/c impacted with trees at Weston Bank and burst into flames.
