Default Air Sea Rescue (23rd December 1944)

Does anyone have access to (or can point me in the right direction of) any official documents relating to the Air Sea Rescue on 23rd December 1944 which was initiated when two No 35 Squadron Lancasters collided over South Foreland.

My only sources to date have been the 105 and 35 Squadron ORBs and a number of very different accounts in various books.

Any help in establishing the facts would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Pete

The 27 ASR/MCU (Ramsgate) ORB confirms that launches 180, 189 and 2549 were crashed out to search the area of North and South Foreland at 1200 hrs on the 23rd of Dec 1944. 2549 returned with 4 x bodies. 180 intercepted the Shepperton Ferry and received 2 bodies from that vessel. Wreckage was seen at '130 degrees, S.Fld, 11 mls'. 2 Spitfires and 1 Walrus were also involved in the search.

You are a star; would it be possible to have a copy of the ORB for inclusion in my findings for the family involved?

    Pete,

If you send me your email address by PM, I will send you the relevant pages. Please bear in mind that the ORB is not specific with regard to the object of search, i.e. this activity may or may not be as a result of the collision you refer to.
