Default 799685 Lac Laurie 63 Fws

I have the details of 799685 LAC Leonard LAURIE Died 25/6/1940 Age 34
Buried Doingt Communal Cemetery Extension, near Peronne France

RAF Overseas Deaths list his unit as 63 FWS
Source Book of the RAF - Ken Delve - lists FWS as Fighter Weapons School is this correct as regards WW2 unit

    Any thoughts

    TIA

    Mark,

The Fighter Weapons School was not formed until 1955. However, 'RAF Flying Training and Support Units since 1912' has the following:

    No.63 Wing
Reformed 20.2.40 as No.63 Fighter Wing Servicing Unit at UXBRIDGE for France; 29.4.40 redesignated No.63 Wing Servicing Unit; Disbanded at HALTON 31.5.40. [as No.21(63) Wing Servicing Wing Unit disbanded Cosford 24.6.40] (briefly included No.3 Sqn 5.40).

Although the dates don't exactly match your man's death date, the unit designation and the fact that it was at one time in France would seem relevant.
