    Default G Goodman 29 Sqn

    Hello,

Can one of our 29 Squadron experts tell me please if the G Goodman who was flying with John Webster Backhouse in August 1943 with 29 Sqn. is the same as Geoffrey Goodman the post war journalist?

    Many thanks,

    Howard

After some time on Google it looks as if the G Goodman and F/O JW Backhouse credited with an Me 410 on 23/24 Aug 1943 were probably the Sgt John Webster Backhouse (1323364) mentioned in a thread on the old boards and Geoffrey Horace Goodman who became W/C 151 Squadron later that year.

    Is this correct?

I have now had a chance to compare the signatures on two combat reports for 29 squadron in 1943. They are distinctly different, so it would appear there were two Geoffrey Goodmans flying as pilots for 29 squadron during this period. s/l Geoffrey Horace Goodman (70799) and f/l Geoffrey Goodman (45491). The later was commisioned as a p/o in 1941 and promoted to s/l in 1947,; details that match the reported career of the journalist who worked for a time with the Manchester Guardian and possibly also still writing the occasional obituary.

Can any 29 squadron experts confirm this please.
