    Default Nightfighter shot down

I am away from my books at the moment and wonder if anyone could tell me the details of a German night fighter shot down on on the night 01/02 March 1943 somewhere between Hanover and Bremen. It is claimed by a 78 Sqn Halifax returning from bombing Berlin.

    Many thanks

I don't think so it's too close to the target. The crew believe the fighter crashed between Hanover and Bremen. Perhaps they didn't actually shoot it down and it managed to land.

    Thanks for replying

    Daz ,

As you say probably the nightfighter was able to land. The other nightfighter lost that night was a Ju-88 WNr 360286 from Stab IV./NJG3 , he went down near Esbjerg Danmark.

Could I trouble you to check another claim please. Somewhere over Belgium (the crew are not specific on the location) during the early hours of 30th May 1943. Crew are returning from Wuppertal and claim a twin engined fighter shot down after a short battle.

    Thanks

    Hi Daz,

According to Theo Boiten's NJWD on the night of 29/30 May 1943 bombers claimed an unidentified twin-engined fighter 20km SE of Louvain at 01.42hrs, a JU88 SE of Aachen at 01.43hrs, a JU88 shot down over Aerschot at 02.00hrs, an unidentified aircraft 3 km NW Diest at 02.23hrs and an unidentified aircraft over Turnout at 02.24hrs.

Total losses were three aircraft with two aircrew killed.

    Regards,

    John.

    Hi Daz ,

The only match i have about those unidentified nightfighters claimed that night over Belgium could be this one :

Me-110 werknumber 5379 G9+FN from 5./NJG1 flown by Oblt Engau Fritz and his bordfunker Fw Horst Kresten bailed out when their aircraft was hit by returnfire from " probably " a Wellington.

Thank you both for your help with this, its a pity that the crew weren't a bit more detailed with their claim. Thanks again.
