Default ACW2 M. J. Wheeler WAAF and AC2 H. Ryan RAFVR, both died 5/7/43, information please.

    Hello,

Can anyone help me with the causes of death of Marjorie Joan Wheeler and Hugh Ryan who both died on 5/7/43 ?

I am trying to find out if they were involved in an accident at RAF Eshott when Spitfire P8390 of 57 OTU taxied into a bowser on the above date.

    TIA

    Ray

F1180 for P8390 records that it landed wheels up after a flight of 1hr 15 mins.

No injuries and no contact with anything other than ground.

Quite a bit of distance between the death registration location of Wheeler and Eshott

    Thanks, Ross.

Does the F1180 give a location for the wheels-up arrival ? And was the cause mechanical failure or pilot error ?

The bowser episode may have occurred at a later date.

The bowser accident was at Eshott on the 13 August 1943.

The wheels up landing at Eshott was caused by jammed wheel thought to have been due to a previous un-recorded heavy landing.

There is no record in the 57 OTU ORB for the loss of Wheeler or Ryan
