Default Who was the CO of 1406 Met Flight in 1941

1406 Met Flight was nominally formed at Wick in April 1941, although it did not become operational until October. I'd like to determine who was the unit's first CO, not easy in the absence of an ORB. Probably a long shot, but would the information be listed in the AFL?

    Brian

Edit. Would anyone have any of the Wick ORBs 28/942, 28/943, 28/926 to 28/929?

    Hello Brian

Did you ever find out more about this unit? I only recently realised that my mum's uncle (therefore my great-uncle) was killed on 06Jan'43 in Miles Master I T8616, which from what I can make out was one of those flying accidents that shouldn't have occurred and possibly appears to have been serving with 1406 (Met) Flt. ,although he's listed on CWGC as with 1510 B.A.T. Flt.

    Kind regards
    Pierre

    Bonjour Pierre,

I found very little about this unit, but by pure luck, a very long time ago, some kind person (Ross?) sent me a page of summaries of accidents/crashes of Coastal Command aircraft for January 1943. 'Your' accident is included:

    1406 Met Flight, 6 Jan 1943

    Location: Leuchars, Type: Master.

Summary: Stalled and spun in while 'shooting up' the aerodrome. C.of I. held. Attributed to carrying out too steep a turn when low flying.

Unfortunately there is no reference on the page which clearly comes from a NA file.

    Brian
