Default F/Sgt Albert John Thomson 1077841

    F/Sgt Albert John Thomson 1077841

Can anyone with access to the Scottish birth registers help?
I am looking for a date of birth for Albert John Thomson who perished on 12/11/1943 in Halifax HR985 of 35 squadron on the return from Cannes.
The CWGC does not give his age.
I have been told by a distant relative that he was born in Kilwinning in Ayrshire, with a sister who lived in Irvine. The usual BDM index does not cover Scotland.

I would imagine it would be around 1920, making him 23 when KIA.

    TIA

Thank you Alan. That makes him even younger than I thought.Does the register give the birth certificate reference or mothers name?

    Sorry to be a pain!

    Paul,
Just to confuse matters, i was not happy with the make up of the forenames, Albert John (CWGC) as against John Albert (Scottish Register) so searched again with only his surname, and sure enough, there is one other born in Kilwinning, in 1921 by the name of Albert, (no second name) No indication of mothers name or certificate reference, even when added to basket for purchase. Oddly enough, when i do a "Deaths" search, no record of an Albert John, John Albert or just plain Albert Thomson is shown ? But a search with Albert John Thomson 1943 on GRO BDM turns up several hits for " British National Armed Forces Deaths" but i do not have a current subscription to go further.

So far the date of death is 12 November 1943 (cwgc entry)
There is a John Thomson on the Kilwinning war memorial, so he may have been known as John.
I have a letter written to his wife by another 35 squadron crew member who refers to him as Albert.
He may have been born in 1921 or possibly 1924.
If he was married then I would opt for the 1921 date.
As you say it gets a bit confusing.

    Thanks,
    Paulh

    Alan,
I have just read the loss card for the aircraft in which AJ thomson was lost, it shows his age as 20. So your first reply seems to be good. Allowing for BC to round up ages to next whole year.
