    Default 1180/765C reports.

Hello. I have a number of 765c Accident reports for most 6 Bomber Group Aircraft. I was wondering where I might find these for 405 Sq while they were with 4 Group and the PFF. Also 1180 accident card, does it contain details of the accidents. Would these be held at the PRO.

    Thanks Richard

Richard - the 1180s are at the RAF Museum Archives at Hendon. You can order them individually as hard copies, or you can order copies of the films on which they are now archived. I have all the 1180s for Lancs and Halifaxes on microfilm, so will have the ones you are chasing for 405 Sqn. I have no facility to print from them, but could feasibly take photos of them on my microfilm reader for you depending on how many there are. Let me know :)

Hello Greg. Thanks for the offer. I ordered the Hali's and Lanc's for 1943 on film from Hendon. But a question. Are there any 765c accident reports in with the 1180's.
    Thanks, Richard

Hi Richard - no, they are comprised entirely of 1180s. I'm not sure I'm familiar with the 765C forms - are they the CoI reports?

    All the best,

    Greg

There is quite a bit about these forms, their usage and examples in the Paperwork section of the forum

Although referenced on the Form 1180 they have been separated.

It is rare to find in the UK public archives for Operational Units but some exist in the ORBs of OTUs.

One of the best sources is to look and see if an RAAF casualty was involved. If so then usually a copy is available in the Casualty File from the NAA. If it is not online it can be digitised by them for a nominal fee.

Also in this forum section is a bit on Form 412 which associated with Court of Inquiry

Hello Ross. There is pretty well a complete set of 765c reports for the RCAF Bomber squadrons, except 405 Sq while they were with the PFF. It even includes a Wellington shooting up the tower at Croft and ripping the wing fabric on the radio antennae. They also have remarks by the Station or Squadron commander as to punishment dished out.
    Regards, Richard
