    Default P/O Kenneth Stanley Helliker

    Hi,

I have just obtained the log book of the above mentioned pilot. He served briefly with 218 Squadron between November & December 1942, completing 6 operations. His log book is not particularly well written and informative. The log book stops abruptly on December 2nd 1942, there are no further entries, nothing is recorded, no postings, flights, movements a complete blank. Unfortunately, 218 ORB does not seem to record any movement of this officer.

Question, does anyone have information on this officer, from 1943 onwards, or can confirm where he served after 218 Squadron?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I have found out a few more tantalising bits about this officer, but still no information on his movements.

Recorded in his Soldiers Service & Pay Book, he had written, Army May 21st 1935, promoted Sgt April 1st 1939, RAF May 1941 (656702) Promoted F/O October 1st 1942 (47836) Discharged January 9th 1943. However I have photos of him in uniform in 1944, and in flying attire.

    Any assistance most welcome.

    Steve,

The LG records Helliker's officer number as 121437:

    Steve,

That's interesting. Here is a subsequent entry for Helliker:

    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...upplement/5276

His surname has been scanned incorrectly as: HELLIKE.R

    Col,

I really cannot make any sense out of this. Very strange.

    Steve,

I have finally found the notice confirming the termination of Helliker's commission:

    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...supplement/490

    Please note the service number!

Robin Herbert KNIGHTS AFC, DFC, RAFVR, was commissioned at the same time as HELLIKER (14-2-1942). Knights had the following progressive service numbers:

    657344/121438/47835.

    Helliker:

656702/121437/ ? - perhaps this is where the number 47836 might come into play!

Don't ask me to explain all of this. If the LG can't get it right, what hope have we got!

    Col,

    Thank you for this mate.

I am not 100% sure what this means in the LG, "The comm of Pilot officer (Prob) K S Helliker is terminated 9th Jan 1943" Does this mean he left the RAF?

I have a photo of him dated 1944 as a pilot officer in what appears flying gear?

    Steve,

l think it best that someone more familiar with RAF protocol should reply.
