Default RAF St. Eval, summer 1943

    Hi all,

I am trying to find out all unites based at RAF St. Eval in summer 1943, June to August.
Thanks to several books and Malcolm's great website (http://www.rafweb.org) I was able to compile following list:

    No. 58 Squadron (31. 3. 29. 6. 1943)
    No. 224 Squadron (23. 4. 1943 11. 9. 1944)
    No. 502 Squadron (25. 3. 30. 6. 1943)
    detaschman of No. 206 Squadron (1. 8. 1941 ?. 10. 1943)
    detaschman of No. 220 Squadron (15. 6. 1943 ?)
    No. 1404 (Meteorological) Flight (1. 3. 1941 11. 8. 1943)
    4th Antisubmarine Squadron USAAF (30. 6. 36. 8. 1943).

Anyone could fill in the dates instead of question marks or add any other corrections?

    TIA

    Pavel,

The 517 ORB records that 1404 Met Flight became 517 Squadron on 11 August 1943, a date that is quoted in all references to the squadron.

58 Squadron were still at St Eval in July 1943. My father's log book (58 Sqn). gives them in transit from St Eval to Homesley South (next posting) on 1st, 7th and 16th July(15.55pm) and Bombing and SE Exercise on 9th, 12th and 13th July and just S E Exercise on 16th July(10.25am).

Hi chaps, thank you both for your comments.
Anyone else would be able to help me with the detachments?

    Hi Pavel:

206 and 220 Sqns had Fortresses on detachment at St Eval from Benbecula in June 1943 - none in July or August.

Both units later relocated to St Eval in advance of transit flights to the Azores in late October 1943.
