    Default No 21 squadron RAF

    Hi Guys,

Having purchased a copy of the ORB for 21 squadron I'm trying to find more detail concerning the aircraft and their crews.

I'm particularly interested in their time flying mosquitos while based at Gravesend (17th April-18June 1944). Is there some resource where you can search/view photographs of pilots? I'm aware that at least one mosquito had a nickname. I would like to know if others did etc?

    Thanks in advance

    Baz.

    Hi Baz,

Simple answer is no - there's no easy way of finding photos, nicknames etc unless someone's already done the hard work. If you've not already discovered them, you might start with the websites below and work out from there:

    http://www.historyofwar.org/air/units/RAF/21_wwII.html
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._21_Squadron_RAF
    http://www.raf.mod.uk/history/bomber...21squadron.cfm
    http://www.wartimememoriesproject.co.../21sqd-raf.php

Might also be worth contacting David Smith, of the Medway Aviation Research Group (MARG): see http://www.kentonline.co.uk/gravesen...resting-26100/

    Hi Richard,

Many thanks for the speedy response. I have already exhausted many of those links which you kindly provided, but was unaware of the War time memories project and David Smith and the organisation he represents.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Jim,

Having read the ORB it was a real treat to finally come face to face with those incredibly brave guys.

    Very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Baz, sorry to hijack this older post, but in your copy of the 21 Sqn ORB, does it provide the exact dates when Wg Cdr I. G. E. Dale was OC? I have Feb-Jul 1944 and Oct 44-2 Feb 45. Are you able to give me the exact dates in Feb, Jul, and Oct 1944, and possibly also explain the reason he was absent in between the two tenures, please?

    Thanks
    Steve
